General

What is Pow-R-Wall?

Pow-R-Wall is a patented vertical-panel insulated concrete form (ICF) system. Two layers of pre-cut foam panels sandwich a core of rebar-reinforced concrete. The foam stays in place after the concrete cures, giving you a structural, insulated wall in a single pour. Pow-R-Wall is engineered for residential foundations, above-grade walls, multi-story residential, and light commercial applications.

What’s the difference between Pow-R-Wall and traditional ICF block systems?

Pow-R-Wall uses pre-cut vertical panels instead of stacked blocks. The install crew works from the ground rather than climbing courses of blocks. No specialty bracing is required during the pour. Panels arrive cut to your specified wall height. Pow-R-Wall typically installs 50% faster than block ICF systems and uses about 45% less concrete on the same wall.

Is Pow-R-Wall a new product?

The product has been engineered, tested, and installed on real projects for over 20 years — originally under the brand Hobbs Vertical ICF. Pow-R-Wall is a rebrand reflecting the product’s growth across the U.S. and Canada. Same engineering, same team, same independent structural testing — new name.

Who is Pow-R-Wall for?

Three primary audiences. Builders and contractors — for foundations, above-grade walls, multi-story residential, and light commercial projects. Homeowners — both DIY builders and those hiring contractors, for high-performance custom homes. Architects and engineers — specifying high-performance, code-compliant, engineered wall systems.

Where can I see Pow-R-Wall installed?

Project case studies are published on our website. Completed projects span the U.S. and Canada — residential foundations in British Columbia, custom homes in Utah and California, multi-story projects in Arizona. We can also connect interested visitors with project owners willing to host a site visit.

For Builders

How fast can my crew learn to install Pow-R-Wall?

A crew that’s already done block ICF can typically run their first Pow-R-Wall project after one virtual training session (about 90 minutes). A crew new to ICF entirely usually needs the training plus one supervised first project. Either way, virtual training is included free with your project order.

What’s a typical installation time for a residential foundation?

A 2–3 person crew can typically install a standard residential foundation wall in a single day. The pour happens the day after install — meaning a complete Pow-R-Wall foundation from layout to cured concrete is usually a 2–3 day sequence. This is roughly 50% faster than a comparable block ICF installation.

Do I need specialty equipment to install Pow-R-Wall?

No specialty equipment. No specialty bracing rentals. No specialty cutting tools. Pow-R-Wall foam panels can be cut on site with a utility knife or hand saw. The system holds its own form during the pour, eliminating the bracing rental line item from your project budget.

Can I order Pow-R-Wall through my regular building supplier?

Pow-R-Wall ships through a network of regional distributors across the U.S. and Canada. Request a quote with your project location and we’ll connect you with your regional distributor. If your preferred supplier doesn’t currently carry Pow-R-Wall, we’ll work with them directly to fulfill your order.

What’s the cost difference vs. block ICF, all-in?

Per square foot of wall, Pow-R-Wall is comparable to mid-tier block ICF on material costs. The savings come from labor (50% faster install), bracing rentals ($0), and concrete volume (~40% less). All-in, builders typically see 15–25% lower foundation phase costs versus block ICF on a comparable residential project. Get a project-specific quote for accurate numbers.

For Homeowners

What does an ICF home cost vs. a traditional wood-framed home?

On day-one construction costs, a Pow-R-Wall home is typically 5–10% more than a comparable wood-framed home in the same market. Over the life of the home, lower energy bills, lower insurance premiums in disaster-prone areas, and zero rot/mold/termite problems usually make total cost of ownership lower within the first decade. DIY-built Pow-R-Wall homes often come in below traditional construction costs even on day one.

Can I really build a Pow-R-Wall home myself?

Yes — and many of our customers do. Pow-R-Wall is one of the only ICF systems engineered to be installable without specialty bracing rentals or specialty tools. Every order includes free virtual installation training, scheduled to your project timeline. You’re not on your own — the engineering stamp on your wall design ships with the panels.

How much will an ICF home actually save me on energy bills?

Typical Pow-R-Wall homes use 50–70% less energy for heating and cooling than a comparable wood-framed home in the same climate. The actual number depends on your local climate, home size, HVAC system, and how you live in the space. We provide project-specific energy savings estimates as part of the consultation process.

Will my homeowner’s insurance be cheaper?

In disaster-prone areas — tornado alley, hurricane coast, wildfire zones — often significantly cheaper. ICF construction qualifies for “fortified home” discounts with many insurers and meets some of the strictest building codes in the country (Miami-Dade, FORTIFIED Gold). Bring the engineering stamp from your Pow-R-Wall order to your local insurance agent for an updated quote.

How long will an ICF home last?

Pow-R-Wall homes are designed to outlast the families who build them. Concrete and rigid foam don’t rot, warp, or feed termites. Maintenance over a 100-year horizon is closer to a commercial building than a typical wood-framed house — meaning much less of it.

Can I finance an ICF home with a regular mortgage?

Yes. Pow-R-Wall homes are conforming construction and qualify for standard residential mortgages including FHA and VA loans. Some lenders offer energy-efficient mortgage products that increase your borrowing power because of the lower projected energy costs over the loan’s life.

For Architects

What CAD and BIM resources does Pow-R-Wall provide?

CAD details (DWG, DXF) and BIM objects (Revit families, IFC) for all Pow-R-Wall components are available for download from the technical resource library. Project-specific details — custom corner conditions, radius walls, special connections — are generated as part of the project engineering package and ship with your order.

Is Pow-R-Wall code-compliant in my jurisdiction?

Pow-R-Wall is ICC-ES evaluated and meets IRC, IBC, NFPA, and Canadian provincial building codes. Project-specific code compliance letters are available for any jurisdiction. For high-wind, seismic, or coastal projects, supporting documentation for Miami-Dade, FORTIFIED Gold, or NFIP requirements ships with the project order.

Can Pow-R-Wall accommodate curved or radius walls?

Yes. Pow-R-Wall supports radius walls down to a 4-foot inside radius using custom-cut panels. Radius walls ship with the same project-specific engineering stamp as straight walls — no separate engineering review is required on the architect’s part.

Is project-specific engineering included with every Pow-R-Wall order?

Yes. Every Pow-R-Wall project ships with a stamped engineering package — structural calculations, panel layout, reinforcement placement, and shop drawings specific to your project geometry. Engineering is performed by licensed Professional Engineers in the project’s jurisdiction. No separate engineering engagement is required on the architect’s part.

What’s the maximum building height I can specify with Pow-R-Wall?

Pow-R-Wall is engineered for projects up to four stories in standard residential and light commercial configurations. Taller projects are evaluated case-by-case as part of the project-specific engineering. Most Pow-R-Wall projects fall in the 1–3 story range.

Installation

What’s included in the virtual installation training?

A one-on-one session with a Pow-R-Wall installation specialist, scheduled to your project timeline. The session covers your specific project’s panel schedule, corner conditions, pour sequence, and any custom details. Typical session is 60–90 minutes. The specialist is the same person available by phone during your install if questions come up.

What if I run into a problem during installation?

Your installation specialist is available by phone and video during your install. For complex situations — unusual conditions, custom modifications, code questions — engineering can be consulted same-day. There’s no “tier 1 support” gatekeeping; you talk to the person who knows the system.

What concrete mix should I specify?

Standard 3000–4000 PSI residential concrete works for most Pow-R-Wall installations. Slump should be 5–6 inches for clean flow between the foam panels. Specific mix requirements for high-strength, seismic, or coastal applications ship with the project’s engineering stamp.

Can I pour Pow-R-Wall in cold weather?

Yes — the foam insulation actually helps maintain concrete cure temperatures in cold conditions, often eliminating the need for blankets or heaters. Standard cold-weather concrete admixtures (accelerator, water reducer) are compatible. Avoid pouring at temperatures below the concrete supplier’s recommended minimum.

Pricing & Ordering

How is Pow-R-Wall priced?

Pow-R-Wall is priced per square foot of wall, with the price varying by project type (foundation vs. above-grade vs. commercial), wall height, panel profile (Contour Wall vs. Flat Wall), and shipping distance from the nearest distributor. Request a project-specific quote for accurate pricing.

What’s the lead time on an order?

Typical lead time from order placement to delivery is 3–4 weeks for standard residential orders. Larger commercial orders and projects requiring custom panel configurations may run 4–6 weeks. Rush orders are possible with advance discussion.
